Ben Tre to develop 28 urban areas by 2020

The People's Committee of Ben Tre Province has just issued a Decision to supplement some of its policies and measures for implementing of the master planning to develop new urban and rural residential areas in Ben Tre Province from now to 2020.

According to planning, the province will concentrate all its resources to build 28 new urban areas including one Class III municipality, three Class IV urban centers, and 24 Class V urban areas. The total project is to be fulfilled before 2020.

By 2015, the Ba Tri, Mo Cay, and Binh Đai Towns are planned to be developed into Class IV urban centers; and the An Dinh Commune (Mo Cay District), Tan Phu, An Hoa communes (Chau Thành District), and Chau Hung Commune (Binh Dai District) will turn out to be Class V urban areas.

Until 2010, the Province will invest in developing 7 rural residential areas in districts as pivotal models for future projects over the province. Besides, from now to 2010, the province will turn 13 communal centers into urban areas.

So far, the Ben Tre Township has achieved the basic requirements for a Class III municipality, and is now doing the final procedures to be entitled by the year-end. Then, from next year to 2010, the Township will go on to upgrade the above criteria so that it would be entitled a provincial municipality.
