Cuban Minister of Construction visits Ben Tre

As
part of his visit to Viet Nam, Mr Fidel Figueroa de la Paz, the Cuban Minister
of Construction, has paid a short visit to Ben Tre Province on May 12, 2007. He
was accompanied by Ms Iliana Hernández Portales, Cuban Consul General in Ho Chi
Minh City, and Mr Ngo Thinh Duc, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of
Transportation.

In
Ben Tre, Mr Figueroa and his entourage were cordially welcome by Mr Huynh Van Be,
Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Ben Tre, and were led to visit the
Rach Mieu Bridge works that will connect Ben Tre and the neighbouring province
of Tien Giang.

During their talk, Mr Huynh Van Be briefed Mr Figueroa about Ben Tre Province
and its social and economic developments in recent years.

For
his part, Mr Figueroa thanked Ben Tre leadership for the cordial reception
and expressed gladness to be able to visit Ben Tre – the homeland of the
resounding Dong Khoi Movement during the resistance war against the American
invasion.

He
also expressed admiration at the hard working spirit of workers on the Rach Mieu
Bridge works as well as of the people along the way he travelled from Ho Chi
Minh City to Ben Tre. This showed him, he said, how Ben Tre, and Vietnam in
general, can thrive for better social and economic developments under the
leadership of the Communist Party. This made him, he said, and the Cuban people
feel pleased and believe in the road the Vietnamese people had been taking to
the future of development.
