Royal Thai Consul General visits Ben Tre and donates bicycles

On September 27, 2007, Mr Pravit Chaimongkol, the Royal Thai Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, and an entourage of Thai business people paid a visit to Ben Tre Province. He and his entourage were greeted by Dr Cao Tan Khong, Chairman of Ben Tre Province's People's Committee.

During his visit, Mr Chaimongkol met and worked with the Provincial leadership about the Province's eco-social development and achievements gained over the past more than 20 years of doi moi (reformation).

As part of his visit, Mr Chaimongkol and the Thai business delegation came to the Ben Tre's Committee of Population, Family and Children and donated 50 bicycles to poor but excellent school children in the 4 districts of Ba Tri, Giong Trom, Binh Dai, and Cho Lach. Mr Chaimongkol said the bicycles were his first ever gifts to be given to poor school children of Ben Tre. School children at secondary school level, who are of poor and in-hardship families, and of excellent learning results in school, but who have no means of traveling to school, would be qualified for the donation.

Mr Chaimongkol said he hoped that this small gift would be an encouragement to the school children who received it, and that it would help enable them to further efforts for better studying achievements. This was also hoped to cement the closer friendship between Viet Nam and Thailand in general, and Thailand and Ben Tre in particular.
