Tet gifts given to AO/Dioxin victims

On January 24, 2008, the Ben Tre Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims Society (AOVS) held a meeting with the victims and their famillies and gave gifts of Tet Mau Ty to them. All the victims and their families coming from 8 districts and township in the province were attending the meeting. The meeting took place in a warm and cosy atmosphere, with expression of pains sharing.

At the meeting, 400 portions of gifts, worth VND200,000 each, were given to the victims and their families. These gifts were donated by the Ben Tre Church of Cao dai Ban chinh, the Ben Tre Buddhist Sangha, the Ben Tre Christian Church, and several businesses and donors in the province.

Along the gifts giving, the AOVS also gave 17 scholarships, worth totally VND 23 million, to students of AO/Dioxin victim families. The scholarships were sponsored by the Friends of the Vietnamese in France.

The AOVS has just gone into operation for more than one year, and it has contributed greatly to general efforts to relieve the pains of the AO/Dioxin victims in Ben Tre. Its many activities included campaigning charitable organizations and golden-hearted people for hundreds of bicyles for the AO/Dioxin victims, helping build the new Quoi Thanh Primary School, donating 12 charidtable houses given to poor people, giving scholarships, lending non-interest money to poor women in the rural areas.
