Ben Tre's campaign for the poor in 2007, and new look in 2008

On March 27, 2008, the Committee of
the Campaign “Day for the Poor” and the Steering Committee of the Project to
Assist Housing construction for poor people in Ben Tre together held a
reckoning conference to have a look at what have been done and not done in
2007. The conference was attended by Mr Vo Thanh Hao – Vice Chairman of Ben Tre
People's Committee and Vice Chairman of the Committee of the Campaign “Day for
the Poor” as well as the Steering Committee of the Project to Assist Housing
construction for poor people in Ben Tre.

In 2007, the campaign “Day for the
Poor” was carried out over the whole province, and achieved satisfactory
results. For details, the campaign raised totally VND25.3 billion, including
VND10.571 billion from the funds for poor people of 3 levels (provincial,
district, communal); VND4 billion from direct contribution by the donors; and
VND10.8 billion from the National Front and its member organizations.

The province has used the above
contributions to construct 384 houses to donate for poor postwar-policied
households, and 1,701 houses to donate for regularly poor households.

In action for 2008, the Committee
of the Campaign “Day for the Poor” and the Steering Committee of the Project to
Assist Housing construction for poor people in Ben Tre have agreed to set
together the target to raise at least VND8.5 billion for the Fund for poor
people, and to construct 1,550 houses to donate for poor people.
