Ben Tre streamlines its departments in accordance with Central Government Resolution

Based on the Resolution No 13/2008/NĐ-CP issued by the Government and a guiding document by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ben Tre People's Committee has issued 9 decisions to streamline its departments, and reorganize its specialised agencies into multidisciplinary departments.

Accordingly, some of the departments and affiliated agencies will be merged into new ones or as part of a current department.

After reorganization, Ben Tre would have 17 departments and affiliated agencies.

The Article 8, Chapter 2 of the Resolution stipulates that all provinces in the country should have the same departments and affiliated agencies, and these departments and agencies should be name just like those in the Central Government.

There are, however, some exceptions for Ben Tre because of it specific conditions. Ther province will not have a foreign affairs department as well as a minorities committee and the architectural planning department

The Committee for Population, Family and Children is among agencies that will be erased and merged into other departments. For details, the personnel and organizational structure of this agency will be dispersed into the Department of Health (the population function), the Deparetment of Culture, Sports and Tourism (the family function), and the Department of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (the children function).

The Department of Gymnastics and Sports and the Department of Culture and Information will be totally erased and their personnel and organizational structures will be merged into the DoCST. The same is true with the Department of Industry which will be merged with the Department of Trade and Tourism into a new Department of Industry and Trade. Then, the tourism function of the later old department will be merged into the DoCST.

For the moment, organizational structure and operations at the departments remain unchanged until later this year, maybe in the second quarter, when there will be any further guidelines from the central government.
