Ben Tre coconut candy industry in new development trend

Ben Tre currently has more than a hundred coconut candy enterprises, of which 12 are private enterprises and limited companies, and 100 more small manufacturing units. Altogether, they churn out about 15,000 tons of products a year, of which 5,500 tons are domestically consumed, and 9,500 tons are for export, earning a total value of VND65 billion and US$7.43 million.

In domestic market, Ben Tre's coconut candy is sold in provinces and cities all over the country, while the main export markets include China, Laos, Cambodia, Mongolia, and small parts of the European and American markets.

The coconut candy industry also creates long-standing jobs for more than 4,000 workers, contributes more than VND1.5 billion to the annual State budget of the province.

Though facing various difficulties due to uncertainties in the general economic context, coconut candy enterprises in Ben Tre look set to push even harder and cooperate to stabilize production toward sustainable development. This is also one of the objectives that have been set by the Provincial People's Committee in efforts to enforce the economical practice and to tame the inflation trend.
