Ben Tre leadership visits province's Buddhist Sangha on the Fifth United Nations Day of Vesak

On May 12, 2008, comrade Huynh Van Be - Ben Tre's Party Secretary, Mr Vo Thanh Hao, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee, and representatives from the provincial National Front Committee and Committee for Religious Affairs paid an official visit to the Executive Board of the Ben Tre Buddhist Sangha.

During the visit, Mr Huynh Van Be exchanged with the Sangha Executive Board information about its activities and asked about how its dignities had been doing lately. He also praised the Buddhist monks and nuns across the province for their contributions to social works, their cooperation with local authorities in helping the poor and the sick.

On celebrating the United Nations Day of Vesak 2008, the 2552nd year of Buddhist calendar, the provincial leadership offered gifts and a flower bouquet to the Ben Tre's mission of 21 Buddhist dignities who then traveled to Ha Noi to attend the grand celebration here on May 14. Celebrations in the province will be held at the Vien Minh Pagoda and main pagodas and monasteries in districts.

Also on this great occasion, many humanitarian activities are carried out by the monks and nuns across the province such as to donate wheelchairs to the handicapped, raise money to build houses for the poor and give gifts to poor households.
