Two ideas from Ben Tre winning prizes at the Viet Nam Innovation Day 2008

22 prizes were awarded to the most excellent and innovative projects and ideas on June 17, 2008, in the event of this year’s Viet Nam Innovation Day. It is significant to Ben Tre that two of its innovative ideas were chosen among the leading 22. First was the idea of “Communication to Increase application of good norms and experiences of food safety on buses in Ben Tre province” co-authored by Ben Tre Red Cross and the Ben Tre College. And second was the project of “Ben Tre’s Women act to propagate food safety in primary and secondary schools” authored by Ben Tre Woman Association.

The Vietnam Innovation Day 2008 (VID 2008) is co-organized by the Vietnam Food Administration, Tuoi Tre Ho Chi Minh City Newspaper and the World Bank. The VID was first organized in 2003 and soon became an annual event. It had a specific major theme for each year, and this year’s major theme is “Food Safety”.

There were a total of 200 projects and ideas submitted to this year’s innovation contest, and 22 were chosen to awarded prizes out of 36 ideas and projects that entered the final round of contest. The prizes were awarded to excellent ideas and projects that were highly feasible, innovative, educational, sustainable and addressing the country’s challenges of food safety. The total value of the prizes was more than US$300,000.
