Ben Tre encourages large-scale livestock farms

Of late, cattle and poultry diseases have been effectively controlled in Ben Tre. Dangerous epidemics such as blue ear pig, foot and mouth on cattle, avian flu on poultry and the Marek disease on chicken have all been circled in early stage so that they could not spread out in large areas. This is seen as a factor to help increase the numbers of cattle and poultry in the province. In addition, prices of many kinds of cattle and poultry going up of late has also contributed to encouraging the growth in number as well as the diversification of livestock. Better qualilty and higher productivity of pigs and cows are now on the rise.

At the moment, 95% of the pig herd are hybrids, with improved quality. The cattle herd with 30% Zebu hybrids have selected the best ones to develop the cattle herd for meat. Meanwhile, the poultry number now also rises to 2.8 million.

Agricultural authorities in Ben Tre are now warning farmers against small household cattle and poultry farms and are encouraging larger scale fams with improved environment protection measures.
