200 scholarships given to students in Ben Tre sponsored by German Kinderhilfe Hoffnung Viet Nam

On October 1, 2008, Ben Tre’s Women Association held a scholarship giving ceremony sponsored by Germany-based Kinderhilfe Hoffnung Vietnam. The ceremony had the presence of Ms Ingrid Sperling, who was a Kinderhilfe Hoffnung representative, and Ms Phung Thi Nga as a representative of Kinderhilfe humanitarian projects managing unit in Viet Nam.

 

The scholarships given today are named after general Nguyen Thi Dinh – Ben Tre’s heroine and the country’s first ever female general during the past great wars against foreign invaders in the twentieth century. The scholarship was founded in 1996 aimed to support students from poor families in the province.

Through its 12-year operations, the Nguyen Thi Dinh scholarship has motivated various sources of sponsorship and worked and cooperated with many golden-hearted business people as well as humanitarian oprganizations in Viet Nam and around the world. Among them, the Germany-based Kinderhilfe Hoffnung has accompanied with the scholarship for ten years, with supports worth billions of VND Vietnamese dong for more than 2000 students and pupils from poor families in the province to continue their schooling. Besides, Kinderhilfe Hoffnung has also helped Ben Tre build many kindergartens and facilities for preschool children.

In the school year of 2008-2009, Kinderhilfe Hoffnung continues to give their support to Ben Tre’s poor students by sponsoring 200 scholarships (to all level of general schools), worth totally VND 96 million. The organization also helps funding the construction of a kindergarten in An Thanh Commune, Mo Cay District. The school construction has just been finished and was put into use on Thursday, Oct 2, 2008.
