Ben Tre's Women helping each other improve livelihood

On celebrating the 78th year formation of Vietnam Women Association (20 October, 1930), in the morning of October 20, 2008, Ben Tre's Women Association held a meeting of the province's businesswomen. At the meeting, women of all ages recounted the heroic history of Vietnamese women in general and Ben Tre's women in particular during the wars against foreign invaders.

Also at the meeting, reports of women helping each other in improving livelihood were also presented. Acoording to some reports, since 2007, thens of thousands of women have helped each other to overcome adversities by cash donations as well as assisting capital to do business. The total amount value of these assistance are worth more than VND18 billion.

At the moment, a movement of "Excellent women in doing business" is maintained by levels of association. There are 146 business models in fine handicraft manufacture, coconut candy production, fruit tree growing, livestock raising, coconut thread manufacture being developed. A provincial businesswomen club with 18 members and 7 district clubs with 70 members, plus 257 teams of women small holders with 3234 members are also in operation, which are being used as forums by women to socialize and raise their own problems in business and social life.
