The second Coconut Festival would be between 15 and 21 January, 2010

The second Coconut Festival and the 10th SMEs Week would be taking place in 7 days, from January 15 to January 21, 2010, according to the Festival's organizers. The space area for hosting the Festival is assigned to the People's Committee Great Hall and the surrounding areas including the province's Museum and Hung Vuong Street running along the Ben Tre River in front of the Museum and the province's Hung Vuong Guest House.

According to planning, festivities would include a trade fair of coconut-based products, a coconut fashion show, the second coconut culinary contest, festival of fine art handicraft workmanship, a night festival with flower garlands and coconut lanterns, Children Festival, etc.

The trade fair of coconut-based products is planned to cover 300 exhibition booths to display everything about coconut, Ben Tre's specialities, tree seedlings of all kinds, other kinds of products made by trade villages, industrial and handicraft products, sightseeing tours, trading activities, etc. Participants in the trade fair would be both domestic and foreign-invested enterprises.

One of the new items in the second coconut festival is the "Enterprise for Future Generation" program in which about 100 rations of scholarship, each worth VND500,000, are planned to be given to poor students. Another program is also planned to donate free-of-charge healthcare services and medication to social-policy families. And, there wouild also be a ceremony to honour organizations and individuals who have great contributions in the development of Ben Tre's coconut industry.

In the morning of January 17, 2010, a gathering of former members of the "Doi quan toc dai" (Ben Tre's famous all-women army during the resisting war against the American invaders in the 1960s).Then, in the evening, night festivities would be opened up in the Sao Mai residential area (in Ward 7, Ben Tre City).
