Chau Thanh launches a component in the biogas program

On November 22, 2010, Ben Tre’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development started in Chau Thanh District a component in the Biogas Program for the Animal Husbandry Sector in Viet Nam between 2007-2012, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and SNV, the Dutch largest development cooperation non-government organization.

The purpose of the project is to help to develop rural areas through the development of biogas technology in order to dissolve the long lasting problems posed by animal waste and to supply rural with clean and cheap energy for use in household activities, helping to enhance community health.

Discharged waste from the biogas process can also be used as a form of clean and rich fertilizer,which is deem to increase productivity, quality for vegvitables.

Participants in the project will receive 1.2 million Vietnamese dongs per capita for a system of biogas. More fund needed for further investments, if any, may be met with loans from the Chau Thanh Branch of the Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development. Maximum term of loan may be 60 months at 75% of current interest rate.

Participants will also be trained and assisted with technical and technological matters related to running the biogas systems.
