ADB senior specialist on urban development in Ben Tre discussing financing urban infrastructure
On December 18, 2014, Mr Vo Thanh Hao, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ben Tre Province accompanied by the Ben Tre City leadership and officials from several provincial departments were met with the working group from Viet Nam Resident Mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by Mr Hubert Jenny, the bank’s Principal urban development specialist.
At the meeting, both sides pointedly discussed a draft report about the results of Ben Tre’s urban sanitation program, the needs and priorities for investment in improving urban ennvironmental cleaning and wastewater management in Ben Tre City, as well as steps to carry out the investment priorities.
The ADB’s working group suggested several ultimate systems for waste treatment, land resource and bank loan thereby Ben Tre Province may make a proper and highly-efficient investment decision.
Accordingly, one of the model, described as a double-decker system of both centralized and decentralized waste treatment investment, was seen as the best choice for Ben Tre City. Going it this way has advantages of both lower initial costs, and investments can be cracked down into shorter periods according to the developmental reality of the City urban at the time being.
At the moment, the total volume of daily waste in Ben Tre City is about 76 metric tons. Meanwhile, the waste depot in Phu Hung Commune, the largest of the kind in Ben Tre City, is almost overloaded. So the need for such a treatment system is very urgent.
