Where the First Communist Party Branch Committee Was Established in Ben Tre

By the end of April, 1930, the first Communist Party Committee of Ben Tre province was established at the house of Mr Nguyen Van Cung. The Committee then had 10 members, all had been members of the former
Viet Nam's Revolutionary Youth Comrades Society. The Committee was established by Mr Nguyen Van An. Comrade Nguyen Van Tri, representative of the Interim Inter-Provincial Party Committee of Ben Tre - My Tho acknowledged the existence of the Committee with Mr Nguyen Van An as Secretary.

Soon after establishment, the Committee held a public rally on May Day at the Cay Da Doi (the double-trunked banyan tree), and then turned into a massive march and demonstration with more than 200 participants.

After the South Liberation (April 30, 1975), the place of the event became a historical relic, and a monument was built here by the Service of Culture and Information of Ben Tre Province in commemorating the historic event. On January 7, 1993, the site was recognized as a national historical relic at the Decision 985-QD/VH issued by the Ministry of Culture and Information.
