Giao Long river port transferred to the provincial authorities

In the last week of this June (2006), the building contractor transferred the River Port of Giao Long to the Ben Tre Provincial authorities, according to Mr Nguyen Xuan Thinh, a building engineer who is chief supervisor of the Giao Long Port construction works.

During the first stage of operation, the Giao Long Port has the total land area of 3.8 ha, of which the real construction area is 27,600 sqm, including 7,000 sqm used for goods clearance space, office buildings, guardian booths, and the 60-metre pier which can harbour a 500-ton boat as the largest. Goods transition through the port is planned to be up to 191,000 tons by 2010. The Giao Long Port is connected through to the Provincial Road 883 and the Giao Long Industrial Park by a newly constructed 2-kilometre-long and 8-metre-wide road.

The Giao Long Port was started construction in 2004. The total fundings to build both the port and the road was VND12 billion, and it was borrowed from the World Bank.
