A company in Can Tho city helps Ben Tre to carry out operation for 300 cataract patients

After receiving a letter from the Ben Tre Society for Poor Patients calling for donation to the Program to bring light to the blind in Ben Tre, the Export Food Production Limited Company based in the Tra Noc Industrial Park, Can Tho Province, has answered the appeal and donated to the Society the operation expenses for 300 cases of cataract, worth VND 500,000 each, according to Mr Huynh Van Cam, Chairman of the Society. In March, 2006, the Society used the fund to carry out 206 cases of cataract operation for blind people in Ben Tre Township, Mo Cay and  Binh Dai Districts. The rest cases are planned to be carried out in other districts in the coming time. Since its launch in 2002, the Program to bring light to the blind in Ben Tre has received the sponsorship from many donators and patrons, and has carried out cataract operation for nearly 3,500 cases. The Program has helped Ben Tre to fulfil its goal of blind eradication in 2004. In 2006, the Society for Poor Patients is planning to carry out cataract operation for 1,000  blind cases. These are the annually new found cases and even some are recurring cases.
