Thanh Phu District: Many children of poor families given free heart surgery

After three years of the programme to carry out operations to cure congenital heart failure for children of poor families in the province, Ben Tre's Society for Aiding Poor Patients and Disabled People has strived greatly to raise funds and the help from many hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City.

U.S.-based International Buddhist Institute finances eye surgery for the poor

On April 19 and 20, 2008, 58 cases
of eye surgery were carried out at the Ba Tri Hospital with the financial help
from the U.S.-based International Buddhist Institute. The surgery has helped
bring the light to poor people in the district. Besides, the International
Buddhist Institute also donated fund for the hospital to furnish 2 operating
tables and gave VND2 million to the charitable kitchen of the hospital.

In an effort to help poor people who are faced with the housing problem, the Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) has made a television programme called "Dream House". In Ben Tre, the HTV has filmed the programme in real life for later broad on the HTV7 channel.

237 Wheelchairs given to poor disabled in Ben Tre

There are 13,107 disabled, among them are 1,695 children, 6,105 unable to work for a living, and 3,839 unable to serve themselves.

More than 11,635 patients being examined and given medication for free
