A people's library in Ben Tre

The Library of Dang Huynh in An Loc Thi Village, An Thanh Commune, Mo Cay District, is the first "people's library" in Ben Tre. The library, which was inaugurated and opened to public in August, 2004, is an initiative of Mr Dang Van Thanh, who is based in Ho Chi Minh City and now is Chairman of the Sacombank branch in Ben Tre, and his wife, Mrs Huynh Thi Ngoc, who was born in An Thanh.

Korean Ngo supports 25 houses for poor people in Chau Thanh district

HOSANNA, a South Korea-based non-government organization (NGO), on February 21, 2006, announced their aids to build 25 houses for poor people in Chau Thanh District, through recommendations by the Province's Communist Youth Union and the Ben Tre Investment Promotion Centre (IPC). Of the donated houses, 10 are in Tan Thach Commune, 2 in Phu An Hoa Commune and 13 in Tuong Da Commune, each worth about VND10 million.

Sci-tech info centres drawing many locals

One year has passed since the day a project to build a system of scientific and
technological information centres was launched. This system, which initially
aimed for supporting community development, was set up with initial centres in
operation in Tan Phu Commune (Chau Thanh District), Phu Long Commune (Binh Dai),
Son Dinh Commune (Cho Lach), and My Thanh An Commune (Ben Tre Township).

Typhoon durian (storm no 9) struck Ben Tre

As typhoon Durian (Storm No 9) started its furious ravage in Ben Tre at 7 am on December 5, its eye was right offshore to the East of the province. Its wind force near the eye was rated between 89 kmph and 117 kmph, gust wind at more than 120 kmph.

In 1997, another typhoon dubbed "Storm No 5" in Vietnamese hit these South-Western provinces, but that storm just swooped by the near-shore waters and mainly damaged fishing boats then still working at sea.

Another suspending bridge put into use in Long My Commune

After three months of construction, the suspending bridge in Village 1, Long My Commune, Giong trom District has just been completed and put into use. The bridge, the second of the kind being built in Long My Commune, is designed with suspending cables.

A place for many golden hearts

Since 2000, under the slogan "the State and the People joining hands", Ben Tre has strived a lot to join the country's movement of rural roads and bridges building. And it has so far been in the leading pack of the country. Over the past 3 years, with the work of the province's Society of Science and Technology for Roads and Bridges (SSTRB), hundreds of roads and bridges have been constructed and put into use, an effort to reduce the hardship of traveling in the rural areas.

Thanh Nien newspaper visits and gives gifts to Agent Orange victims in Ben Tre

On July 19, 2006, a mission of the Thanh Nien newspaper's Mekong Delta branch office in Can Tho City came to Ben Tre to visit, talk, take care of and give gifts to 86 students of the Ben Tre's School for Early Life-Entering Children, and 15 other children who are Agent Orange victims in Phu Duc Commune, Chau Thanh District.

A German aid fund helps build 3 concrete bridges in Ben Tre

Ben Tre's Society of Sci-Tech for Roads and Bridges has held the inauguration ceremony and put into use 3 new concrete bridges in An Ngai Trung, My Thanh, and Vinh Hoa Communes, Ba Tri Districts. And the above mentioned are among the many bridges that Mr W.P. Schimtz-Stifftung has done so far for Vietnam.

A newborn baby is crying for help in Ben Tre

The baby, named Nguyen Thi Van Em, 4 and a half months of age, is the first baby daughter of Mr Nguyen Van Loi and his wife Dong Thi Diep. The young couple are now living in the 8th Village, My An Commune, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province.
