How coconut water helps our health

For a very long time, coconut water has been used as a favourite drink, and it has also been used a great deal in cooking, such as making food color additive, stew meat soak to add more favourable flavour. More recently, there has been a new kind of food made from coconut materials being sold in the market, which is called coconut jelly.

Chau Thanh launches a component in the biogas program

On November 22, 2010, Ben Tre’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development started in Chau Thanh District a component in the Biogas Program for the Animal Husbandry Sector in Viet Nam between 2007-2012, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and SNV, the Dutch largest development cooperation non-government organization.

Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology at work in Ben Tre

On November 5, 2009, Mr Truong Minh Nhut, Director of Ben Tre’s Department of Science and Technology (DOST) held a reception and working session with Dr Pham Van Quy, Deputy Chairman of the Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology and his entourage who are on a working tour in the South. There was also a special guest in the guest delegation, Dr Koo Bum Moo, Chief of Rep Office of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) in Ho Chi Minh City.

Sci-Tech activities in Ben Tre in first 9 months of year

For the first 9 months of the year, Ben Tre’s science and technology sector have focused on developing and putting into operation the province’s main-point economic projects and programs. For specifics, the project to grow new 4,000 hectares of green-skinned pomelo has so far finished a green and safe production model, grown 500 hectares of new pomelo, expanded currently grown 1.340 hectares. Thus, the total area of green-skinned pomelo covering in Ben Tre so far has reached 3.284 hectares.

Ben Tre and Quang Nam sign CCAM aid pact with Denmark Gov

Mr Nguyen Van Hieu, Vice Chairman of Ben Tre Province, attended the signing ceremony of an aid pact in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam province on June 13, 2009, by which the Dennish Government would subsidize Ben Tre and Quang Nam provinces US$17 million for the pivotal deployment of the Climate Change Accommodation and Minimization Program.

Typical activities in the sci-tech area in the first Quarter

In the first Quarter, the province's Science and Technology Council carried out the selection of scientific and technological projects for the 2009-2010 period. It also inspected and accepted 3 scientific projects including the Project to import, grow and develop 500 hectares of aromatic coconut in Ben Tre.

Danish Ambassador on visiting tour of Ben Tre for climate change surveillance

On October 22 and 23, 2008, Danish Ambassador to Viet Nam Peter Lysholt Hansen made a visiting tour of Ben Tre for a reality check of the effects of climate change on the lives of local people in the province.

Biogas systems to help reduce environment pollution

On June 24, 2008, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Ben Tre launched the project to build biogas systems in rural households to help reduce environment pollution. This year, the project is building 200 biogas systems in Chau Thanh, Giong Trom, Mo Cay, Cho Lach Districts and Ben Tre Township.

Two ideas from Ben Tre winning prizes at the Viet Nam Innovation Day 2008

22 prizes were awarded to the most excellent and innovative projects and ideas on June 17, 2008, in the event of this year’s Viet Nam Innovation Day. It is significant to Ben Tre that two of its innovative ideas were chosen among the leading 22.

The making of tree grafting in Cai Mon

Seedling cultivation in Cai Mon, Cho Lach District was originated over a century ago by a French parish priest known only as Gernot, who then was administering a Christian parish in Cai Mon. It was Gernot who brought the first fruit tree seedlings into Ben Tre from foreign countries, mainly Thailand and Malaysia.
